The Abbazia di Novacella winery was founded in 1142 and is among the oldest active wineries in the world. Today, from our 100 hectares of vineyards around 900.000 bottles of wine are produced. The wines of Abbazia di Novacella are distinguished by their high quality and longevity. From grapes from the best vineyards which are particularly rich in extract and harvested in small quantities, we produce the Praepositus wines, our crus.
We cultivate 20 hectares of still white vines on the DEMETER biodynamically vineyards in Alto Adige South Tyrol's south, situated at altitudes ranging from 270 metres a.s.l. around the picturesque Casteletto of Villa in Egna up to 1,050 metres a.s.l. near Montagna in the Trudner Horn Nature Park. The stony soils of the Dolomites, characterised by limestone, lend our wines minerality and freshness.
Soaring majestically upwards from the slopes of Alto Adige, you can see it from far and wide: Since autumn 2018, this shimmering cube has been the new headquarters of the Cantina BOZEN. The low-energy building brings the philosophies of practicality and environmental sustainability together in the most innovative of ways. The finest sites of the Cantina BOZEN are as varied as the land itself: 340 hectares of the best Bozen vineyards are located at 200 to 1,000 metres above sea level. 224 members of the cooperative, brought here by our devotion and passion for wine. One large family who dedicate their lives to cultivating the lands around Bolzano, and who know that quality is more important than quantity. That’s us. That’s the Cantina BOZEN.
Cantina Girlan is one of Alto Adige’s most storied and authentic wine producers. Founded in 1923 within a 16th-century farmhouse, it embodies the region’s cooperative tradition—today uniting 200 dedicated winegrowing families who tend 230 hectares of prime vineyards across Oltradige and Bassa Atesina. This unique structure ensures meticulous care of each small plot, resulting in some of the region’s most acclaimed wines. Renowned for refined, puristic whites and an exceptional range of Pinot Noir, Cantina Girlan exports its award-winning wines to over 40 countries worldwide.
Terlano lies in South Tyrol, a melting pot in which the contrasts blend to form a harmonious whole. Founded in 1893, the Cantina Terlano winery is now one of the leading wine growers’ cooperatives in South Tyrol, with a current membership of 143 growers working a total area of 190 hectares. That is the equivalent of some 1.5 million bottles of wine a year. We and our members have long had a strong focus on quality. That has attracted praise and recognition on the Italian and international wine markets, and in spite of its relatively small size, Cantina Terlano is now well established in the world of wine. Our modern winery produces 30 percent red and 70 percent white wines, all of them of DOC quality (Controlled Designation of Origin). Our wines are marketed in two distinct quality lines: Selections and traditional line. An annual rarity is also produced, which only comes on the market after it has spent at least ten years maturing in our cellars. That makes it a fine symbol of our focus on longevity.
Known worldwide for its Pinot Noir and Gewürztraminer, the J. Hofstätter estate is located in the heart of Tramin-Termeno in Alto Adige.
Martin Foradori Hofstätter, son of Paolo Foradori (the so-called Father of Pinot Noir), runs the company, representing the family’s fourth generation.
The J. Hofstätter estate has become popular for keeping the spotlight on zonation in the region of Alto Adige. The estate’s vineyards extend on both the east and the west side of the Adige Valley, a distinctive occurrence for a family-run winery in Alto Adige. The vines have their roots on plateaus and hills at altitudes ranging from 250 to 850 meters. Each vineyard has a unique terroir and grows in extraordinary microclimatic conditions. Therefore, in 1987, J. Hofstätter was the first winery in Alto Adige to introduce the word “Vigna” (the Italian word for vineyard) on its labels. By taking this step, the winery enhances the production of relevant parcels and single-vineyard wines, which are the key for any wine that aims to be a real “Cru”.
Nals Margreid – a name associated for centuries to wine production and wine culture. A tradition that goes back to 1764, when the Campi estate was built on the site of our current winery. Nals Winery was founded in 1932 and with the merge of Margreid Winery in 1985, Nals Margreid was established. Today, 138 wine-growing families cultivate around 160 hectares of vineyards. There are 14 areas, between two and twelve hectares in size, between Nals in the Adige Valley and Margreid in South Tyrol’s south. The geographical features are our most valuable resource and are a constant source of inspiration when creating our wines. With a respectful approach to nature, we harvest grapes that bear the mark of Nals Margreid as they are readied for bottling in a stylised, studied and expressive manner: Alpine freshness. Harmony with the terroir. International.
Founded in 1861, we are a leading family winery from Alto Adige, Italy, known for award-winning wines that combine alpine precision with elegance.
Our organically farmed vineyards range from 300 to 900 meters in altitude, producing vibrant, expressive wines that reflect Alto Adige’s identity as Italy’s leading white-wine region and a top origin for high-quality Pinot Noir.
We work with leading importers worldwide and are committed to sustainable, quality-driven winemaking, as confirmed by our pioneering CasaClimaWine certification.
Founded in 1907 as a cooperative, the St. Michael-Eppan Winery today counts 320 members who cultivate 390 hectares of vineyards. The sites in and around Appiano offer ideal conditions for varieties such as Pinot Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Gewürztraminer and Pinot Noir. But also for structured red wines, there are small but excellent vineyards in lower locations and along the wine route. The mild and sunny climate forms the basis for the unique quality of the wines. Today, St. Michael-Eppan is one of the most renowned wineries in South Tyrol and Italy, with award-winning wines at both national and international level. The Italian wine guide "I Vini d'Italia" by Gambero Rosso named it "Cooperative Winery of the year 2021", a title it had already received 20 years ago.
The winery Peter Sölva is one of the oldest wine-growing businesses in Caldaro. We are a family business which has been passed on to the next generation for hundreds of years. Documents go back to 1731 showing that our family has grown grapes, made and sold wine without a break for 11 generations.Family history was and still is at the centre of our work and describes our 2 wine selections with the historical names of our family DeSILVA
(signature of the soil, old vines) and AMISTAR (signature of the family, reminder of our Spanish roots).
These two family names not only designate our wines, but also identify us personally as a historic winegrowing family. With this family tradition, it was of course also important to us to continue to cultivate the local varieties, but also to look to the future in an innovative way.
Our family's quality-conscious work has earned us numerous awards throughout the farm's history, confirming our philosophy time and again. Among our important customers was also the world-famous monastery of St. Peter in Salzburg, and the prize awarded by the Association of Agricultural Enterprises of German South Tyrol in 1908 in Bolzano at the German-Tyrolean wine market also stimulated the upheaval and reorganisation of the winegrowing business at the beginning of the 20th century.
Until 1960 we produced small quantities of 0,75lt bottled wines and above all draught wines, which were sold in litre bottles or 50lt wooden barrels to the gastronomy of South Tyrol, Austria, Switzerland and to Munich.less
It was only a few years after the Second World War that more and more wine was bottled in litre bottles and then more and more in 0.75lt bottles. Over the years, there have been many positive developments in viticulture (vineyard variety projects) and cellar management. In 1963, the so-called designations of origin were established in order to better control the cultivation and its quality. For example, the cultivation with a different cultivation system became interesting - the wire frame. In 1985, we also made the first trials with this cultivation system.Due to the location, the winery produces 60% red wines in our valley locations around Lake Kaltern between 224 - 400 metres above sea level and 40% white wines in our hillside locations between 400 - 600 metres above sea level.
The red varieties focus on Cabernet Sauvignon - Franc, Merlot and Lagrein. Historically, we also work with autochthonous grape varieties such as Vernatsch and Lagrein, and in some new vineyards with Pinot Noir. The white varieties focus on Pinot Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. We also work with the autochthonous grape variety Gewürztraminer and in some new vineyards with Pinot Grigio/Grauburgunder and Muskateller.
In the last few years of our company's history, we have primarily worked on our wine range and its sustainable and respectful quality management in the vineyard, in order to preserve our nature with respect for the next generations, step by step, according to the common South Tyrolean plan of Agenda 2030.
In cellar technology, too, it was always necessary to rethink, to adapt to natural cycles and to modernise our machinery in such a way that our grape qualities can be processed much more selectively and, above all, gently. In 1986, in addition to the large wooden barrels and stainless steel tanks, we also began to work increasingly with smaller wooden barrels such as barriques and tonneaux.
With these two family names we not only identify ourselves personally with our wines, but also as a historical wine-growing family. This family tradition was, of course, important enough for us to continue maintaining the local varieties and also to look innovatively into the future.
In particular, keeping in touch with our loyal customers helped us with our quality development in vineyards and cellar. Of course, our customers - requirements have changed considerably, so that it has become even more of a challenge to always work with the our genuine grounds and our region, which reflects itself in our identification mark, because that is what will also make us different in the future.
