The Domaine Alice Hartmann is located in the southern (upper) region of the Moselle, where the soils are predominantly made of limestone. This allows us to cultivate very elegant Rieslings as well as certain Burgundy varieties, namely Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
Compared to previous generations, we have introduced new grape varieties, such as Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. With Chardonnay, we were the first winery to plant this variety in Luxembourg. Another first in Luxembourg was the introduction of oak barrels in the Burgundy style and the production of Crémants of the highest quality, capable of competing with Champagne. The estate has been completely modernized, and today we have a state-of-the-art cellar and machinery.
Our philosophy in the vineyards has always been to reduce yields in order to significantly improve the quality of the grapes. Most of our Rieslings grow on steep slopes or old terraces, ensuring optimal sun exposure and ripe fruit.
Our Rieslings are vinified in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, while the Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and a portion of the base wines for our Crémant are vinified and matured in oak barrels in the Burgundy style.
The average age of our Riesling vineyards is about 50 years, with the oldest vineyard being 90 years old.
The Wormeldange Koeppchen site has limestone soil with high sunlight exposure. The vineyard is protected from above and transitions from a southeastern to a southwestern orientation towards the sun.
The Palmberg site grows on soils with a high rock content, is southeast-oriented, and is sheltered by a large cliff to the north.
The Domaine Claude Bentz is a family-owned Luxembourg wine estate, renowned for the quality of its wines and its traditional know-how. Founded in 1933, the vineyard is now run by Carole Bentz, representing the fourth generation.
In 2001, the estate was honoured for the excellence of its wines by being awarded the official title of “Supplier to the Court” by the Grand Ducal Court of Luxembourg.
Covering 16 hectares of vineyards spread across the finest terroirs of the Luxembourg Moselle Valley, the estate carefully cultivates its vines at low yields, focusing on classic grape varieties such as Riesling, Pinot Gris, Auxerrois, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer, as well as the traditional Luxembourgish grape varieties Rivaner and Elbling.
The estate produces first-class wines and crémants that are elegant, aromatic, and truly representative of the region, offering both floral and fruity notes.
A good wine is not the result of chance; a good wine must be planned. The quality of the wine always depends on the quality of the grapes from which it is made. This observation leads to a clear objective: to produce ripe, healthy grapes. We base all our activities in the vineyard on this philosophy: starting with short pruning, targeted fertilisation only where necessary, leaf removal at the right time, green harvesting or halving the bunches if necessary, and exclusively manual harvesting in several passes.
The harvest is followed by careful processing in the cellar, then ageing in wooden barrels or stainless steel vats.
For the discerning winemaker, there is probably no such thing as a perfect wine. There is always something that could be improved. We pay particular attention to improving the details. It is our ambition to strive for perfection that makes our wines what they are.
Max Mannes created the estate from scratch to produce his first vintages in 1978 and launched the estate in 1988. His daughter Michèle decided to take over the estate in 2021 and relies on the experience of the master of cellar Andreas Krebs. The name of the estate refers to the beautifully restored former watermill of the monks of the great chapter of Trier in which the fine wines of the house are now tasted. The wines are produced from all the traditional grape varieties of the Moselle. The aim of the work in the vineyard and in the cellar is to offer each wine the specific characteristics of the grape variety and their terroir, and this while respecting nature.
Winemakers by passion, we craft exceptional wines shaped by more than ten generations of expertise. Since 1695, the Krier family has cultivated the art of viticulture; founded in 1957, Domaine Krier-Welbes is today led by Guy Krier, representing the 10th generation.
In the heart of the Schengen region, 15 hectares of organically farmed vineyards express the full richness of limestone-rich Keuper soils. Faithful to the great Burgundy grape varieties, we produce wines of character—precise, elegant and expressive—alongside refined Crémants deeply rooted in their terroir.
Combining precision in the cellar, respect for tradition and a constant spirit of innovation, our philosophy pursues one goal: emotion in the glass. We invite you to experience Domaine Krier-Welbes and discover our wines at the KW3 vinotheque in Ellange-Gare, Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
The wine region is located along the Moselle (Mosel) river and stretches on +- 42km. Although it is suspected that the Celts were already cultivating vines on the Moselle before BC, it was with the Roman occupation that Moselle winegrowing took off. Since then, vineyards have spread uninterruptedly during more than 2000 years along the river in Luxembourg. While German Mosel wines are well-known around the world, our Luxembourg wine region has gained some popularity in very recent times… Our winery is located in Remich, former “Remacum”, as the village was called in Roman times. Viticulture is going back to the 17th century in our family. The Domaine L&R Kox has been founded in 197 by Laurent and Rita Kox. Their daughter Corinne has taken over the reigns of the winery in 2019. As of today, the winery cultivates its various grapes varieties (Riesling, Rivaner, Saint Laurent, Auxerrois to name just a few) on about 10 ha. The commitment of the Kox family has always been on quality juices (100% hand-picking and selection). Laurent Kox devotes his oenological knowledge and expertise as winemaker to his love for his métier and wines. His daughter Corinne who holds a PhD in Molecular Biology has her strong point on sustainable viticulture. The wines of Domaine L&R Kox are mostly dry and reflect the Mosel region. While other wines represent the nature of Laurent and Corinne: innovative, and out of the box (some examples: Laurent planted the first Saint Laurent plants in Luxembourg in 2003 (which disappeared from the Mosel terroir in early 20th century. Corinne installed 2 kvevris in the garden in which they vinify Riesling and Pinot Blanc.) Corinne's scientific background also brings the winery to collaborating with scientists on different research projects (Corinne introduced drones to help making viticulture more sustainable (project running form 2020-2023)). Because of their love to experimentation, the family vinifies in smaller tanks, celebrating the diversity of grape varieties and microclimates. Hence a smaller number of bottles per type of wine, and a lot of different types of wine. Their long-term goal is to fully convert to organic viticulture (conversion ongoing), but the most important objective is introducing polyculture/vitiforestry on their parcels to gain in biodiversity and some form of “self-sufficiency” of the vineyard.

The Schmit-Fohl Winery is situated in the heart of the village of Ahn, one of the most picturesque along Luxembourg’s Moselle river, and is now in its 7th generation of family ownership.
A new milestone was reached in 2021 when Nicolas and Mathieu took over the 14.5 hectares of the Estate, following in the strong family tradition of adding their personal touch and vision to the rich heritage of previous generations.Since their arrival, the two brothers have worked at converting the vineyards to organic in the interest of protecting both environment and wine heritage. From the 2020 vintage onward, their wines are certified as either organic or in conversion towards organic.
The winery’s deep-rooted tradition of careful vine maintenance (through for example the use of organic fertilizers and consistent defoliation) with a focus on limited yields and exclusively manual harvesting for preserving quality, have enabled a smooth transition to organic production which otherwise might not have been without risks.
The wines are vinified in accordance with prevailing mandatory organic production standards, with external interventions reduced to an absolute minimum.
This enables the making of authentic wines with great ageing potential and which express the typicality of the vines and the personality of the vineyards and soils. The word ‘terroir’ refers to a combination of factors such as climate, soil, and vineyard topography. It constitutes, together with the vines and the expertise of the winegrower, one of a wine’s key differentiation factors. The soil of our vineyards, all situated within a radius of 4 km of the village of Ahn, is made up essentially of shell limestone renowned for producing fine and distinguished wines.
