De Wetshof Estate Lesca Chardonnay
Lesca Chardonnay is a classic expression of De Wetshof’s Robertson heritage, grown on limestone-rich soils that naturally enhance freshness, texture and longevity. Named after Lesca de Wet, this wine reflects elegance, balance and understated complexity.
Winemaking:
Grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness to preserve natural acidity and fruit purity. After gentle pressing, fermentation takes place in French oak barrels, where a portion of the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation to build creaminess and depth. The wine is matured on its lees for added texture and complexity, with careful oak integration that supports — rather than dominates — the fruit. Minimal intervention allows both site and variety to shine.
Tasting Note:
Pale straw with a golden hue, Lesca opens with aromas of lemon zest, ripe peach and green apple, layered with hints of citrus blossom, toasted almond and subtle brioche. The palate is poised and expressive, showing vibrant citrus and stone fruit balanced by a creamy mid-palate and fine mineral line. Bright acidity provides lift and precision, carrying the wine through to a long, elegant finish with lingering notes of hazelnut and chalky limestone freshness.
