The wines of Saint-Emilion - Pomerol - Fronsac draw their richness and complexity from the heart of an exceptional terroir. All the right conditions are in place to create a synergy that is conducive to the slow ripening of the grapes and the blossoming of subtle aromas: a geologically diverse soil, an undulating landscape of plateaux and hillsides, and a microclimate that combines temperate oceanic conditions with a continental climate softened by the presence of two rivers, the Isle and the Dordogne. The environment and biodiversity have always been key concerns for the winegrowers of Saint-Emilion - Pomerol - Fronsac. Numerous studies to limit the environmental footprint of winegrowing, tree-planting programmes and the creation of biodiversity reservoirs are just some of the initiatives undertaken in this small area, a veritable open-air laboratory! To take things a step further, in Saint-Emilion, the winegrowers have decided to amend the specifications for their appellations to include a requirement for environmental certification. At the same time, a major collective environmental initiative is underway on a number of issues. Similarly, in Pomerol, mating disruption to combat insect pests (eudemis and cochylis) has been almost completely introduced, thus avoiding the use of insecticides. In addition, the new specifications ban all chemical weeding in the vineyards. In Fronsac, 85% of winegrowing estates are committed to environmental certification for their vineyards, and 30% of areas are already certified organic or in the process of being so. The aim of the region's winegrowers is simple: to care for the terroir and this exceptional environment in order to protect it and pass it on to future generations. Combining finesse and intensity, refinement and power, the wines of Saint-Emilion - Pomerol - Fronsac bear the full personality of their exceptional terroir, revealing an unrivalled balance. Elegant and expressive, they boast deep, dense, brilliant ruby colours, with garnet-red highlights that can sometimes take on a purple hue. Their subtle, fresh, fruity aromas unfold with age to reveal a palette of spicy, roasted, toasty and floral notes. They can be drunk young and fruity, yet have surprising ageing potential. Their full-bodied, velvety texture and robust structure are enhanced by powerful tannins that become rounder with age, promising harmony and generosity. So, as intensely seductive today as they will be tomorrow, they meet the demands of drinkability and will give different but equal pleasure depending on the circumstances and the moment when they are enjoyed.
