Located on the clay-limestone hillsides of Saint-Hippolyte at around 100 meters above sea level, Château de Ferrand Grand Cru Classé is one of the highest vineyards in the appellation Saint-Emilion. Owned by the descendant of Baron Baron, this historic family estate sits at the heart of a genuine sea of green: the 18th-century building is surrounded by 42 hectares of land, including 10 hectares of woodland, parkland and meadows.
The vineyard covers 32 hectares with 70% merlot, 29% cabernet franc and 1% cabernet sauvignon - providing roundness, freshness, minerality, acidity and a lingering finish that herald perfect balance and a wonderfully long life. Composed of four different type of soils, Ferrand’s terroir is unique and allow the winery to produce structured, complex and elegant wines. Since 2007, Château de Ferrand has also had a second wine: Le Différent de Château de Ferrand. It is a product of the same terroir and the same commitment to quality as Ferrand’s first wines.
The ten hectares surrounding Ferrand’s vineyards are unique in the Saint-Emilion region, and home to a wide variety of fauna and flora. Château de Ferrand has been committed to seeking environmental balance since 2012: the estate is certified Terra Vitis (2012), HEV Level 3 (2018) and more recently, the property was certified ISO 14 001. In addition, 2021 will be the very first 100% organic vintage.
