This Riesling comes from the single vineyard "La Roche" – red-appearing soil, interspersed with countless sandstone stones of all sizes, steep and south-facing, promising mineral, delicate Rieslings. The soil developed from calcium-rich clay and sandstone soils of the Oberrotliegend formation, dating back 280 million years – similar to today's Death Valley.
The first vintage in 2007 was the maiden yield of this vineyard and also the first vintage of Riesling "La Roche." Even this wine proved to be very complex and mineral. The vineyard for the Riesling La Roche 2021 was harvested in two passes. First, we picked grapes that still had enough freshness, then ripe grapes with impressive complexity. Spontaneously fermented, the fermentation lasted until summer. The wine is characterized by a complex minerality. Initially reserved, but with a little air, more and more fine mineral nuances emerge. This is complemented by aromas of herbs (lemon balm), peach, and apple.
A wine that pairs well in many combinations. Whether with salads topped with spicy shrimp and avocado or with grilled meat.
