The small uprising country from Southeastern Europe presents 26 companies at Wine Paris / Masterclass on February 11
„Unexpectedly great“ – the new marketing claim of the Wine of Moldova nails it! 26 wine and spirit producers from the small country in Europe’s Southeast will come to Wine Paris from February 9 – 11 to expose the great qualities Moldova can offer especially with its indigenous grape varieties (Hall 4, stand F363).
They will also be showcased in a masterclass given by the wine journalist and Eastern Europe expert Thomas Brandl at the „Academy“ on February 11 at 3 pm (Room 2, hall 4).
There’s probably no second country in Central and Eastern Europe having made such a huge step forward in terms of quality and international business during the last ten years than Moldova. Since the founding of ONVV in 2013, the small country between Romania and Ukraine has defined three geographical indications (Codru, Stefan Voda and Valul lui Traian plus a fourth one for brandies called Divin), created a national wine register – and won more than 8,500 medals at international competitions, more than 50 percent of them gold.
Today, exports go to 74 countries all around the world, export share of total production is 81 percent, from which 60 percent are destinated to EU countries – not more than one quarter to CIS countries. 20 years ago it was over 90 percent. And: Moldova is one of the few countries which could rise its exports with 6,5 percent last year.
More and more wine lovers around the globe are loving indigenous grape varieties like Feteasca Alba, Feteasca Regala, Rara Neagra, Feteasca Neagra and get acquainted with the “newcomers” being created still during Soviet times, as Alb de Onitcani, Viorica, Floricica, Legenda or Codrinschii. All of them are bringing completely new, fresh aromas into the game beyond the mainstream of Merlot, Cabernet, Chardonnay & Co.
At Wine Paris these 26 wineries and brandy producers will present over 120 labels. Amongst them are big and well-known brands as well as medium-size and small companies.
