At the heart of Les Riceys, the Maison de Champagne Bauser, creator of exceptional wines, was born fifty years ago from the touching story of a couple and their children.
Of Franco-Belgian origin, René Bauser began as a simple vineyard worker. Determined to work for himself, he settled in the 1970s in the Aube region of the Côte des Bar and gradually acquired his own vineyards. The challenge was significant.
The vineyard plots purchased in Les Riceys were, at the time, not very attractive and obtained through substantial loans. Bold and passionate about freedom, René Bauser nevertheless succeeded in cultivating his vineyards by joining a cooperative. The first step toward independence was taken.
In 1975, alongside his wife Claudie, he created the Champagne Bauser brand. Hard work, discipline, and a pursuit of excellence allowed the Maison de Champagne to deeply anchor its roots.
Alongside the birth of their vineyard estate, René and Claudie started their family. From a young age, the couple’s children – Sophie, Sébastien, and Frédéric – spent their free time among the vines.
Becoming accomplished winemakers themselves, they took over the family business in 2000, each embracing a preferred specialty (commerce, viticulture, oenology).
Proud of their heritage, they in turn passed on the passion for producing a unique and authentic Champagne to three of their children. After exploring other horizons, Julie, Axel, and Adam naturally returned to the estate to follow in their parents’ footsteps.
For fifty years, Champagne Bauser has thus showcased a family mastery passed down through three generations of passionate winemakers.
Daring to blend tradition with innovation, the Bauser family offers cuvées that are both contemporary and authentic. Vinification methods are diverse, sometimes avant-garde (amphorae, barrels, large casks, stainless steel tanks, drunk turtle), and the blends are precise and subtle (some cuvées are meticulously blended using the Solera method of perpetual reserve).
While the pursuit of perfection and novelty is shared within the Bauser family, each generation contributes its own touch. Everyone is free to take initiative, while being assured of support from both the younger and older members.
Now 90 years old, René continues to come to the estate every day, offering his invaluable help to his children and grandchildren. Claudie, recognized for her creativity, keeps a watchful eye on the family business, always offering her wise advice, for perfection lies in the details.
A delicate alliance of tradition and modernity, the Maison de Champagne Bauser invites guests to a tasting experience where the sense of family is part of the journey.
