Just days ago, fresh snow settled on the Alpine peaks facing our vineyards, offering a striking reminder of the unique environment in which our wines are born. While the vines rest below, still green and rooted in the slopes of Apremont, the mountains above already announce the coming winter. This visual contrast perfectly illustrates the Alpine influence that defines our terroir.
Located at the foothills of the Chartreuse massif, Domaine Dupraz benefits from a true mountain climate. Altitude, steep slopes and proximity to the Alps create strong thermal amplitudes, with warm days balanced by cool nights. These conditions slow down ripening, preserve natural acidity and enhance aromatic precision — key elements of freshness and balance in our wines.
The soils play an equally decisive role. Our vineyards are planted on deep clay-limestone soils mixed with ancient scree deposits originating from mountain erosion. These soils retain enough water to sustain the vines during dry periods while ensuring excellent drainage. This balance allows for steady vine growth, moderate vigor and consistent ripening, even in challenging vintages.
The early snowfall on the surrounding peaks is not just symbolic. It contributes to cold air circulation, reinforcing nighttime cooling and extending the growing season. This Alpine freshness is particularly expressive in our Jacquère, which reveals tension, salinity and crystalline aromatics. It also shapes the structure of Mondeuse and Altesse, bringing definition, lift and aging potential.
Certified organic since 2018, we work our vineyards with great attention to soil life and plant balance. Grass cover, careful canopy management and low intervention are essential to translate this mountain terroir into the glass. In the cellar, vinification remains precise and respectful, allowing each parcel to express its identity without excess extraction or oak influence.
The snow-covered peaks remind us that our wines are inseparable from their environment. They are not simply wines from Savoie, but wines shaped by altitude, geology and climate — wines of contrast, tension and energy.
This is the Alpine signature of Domaine Dupraz: purity, freshness and a deep sense of place.
