CVNE, Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España, was founded in 1879 in the historic Barrio de la Estación district in the town of Haro, La Rioja (Spain), marking the birth of a family winery that has grown into a group of eight wineries across northern Spain. Today, the group comprises CVNE and Imperial in Haro, Viña Real in Laguardia and Viñedos del Contino in Laserna (Rioja Alavesa), Bela in Villalba de Duero (Ribera del Duero), Roger Goulart in Sant Esteve Sesrovires (Catalonia, Cava region), and the Galician wineries Virgen del Galir (Valdeorras) and La Val (Rías Baixas).
Today, under the leadership of the fifth generation of the founding family, CVNE has established itself as one of Spain’s most important and internationally recognised wine producers.
Several of CVNE’s brands have made history. Imperial was ranked the world’s number one wine by Wine Spectator, becoming the first Spanish wine to receive this accolade. Corona 1939 was the first Spanish white wine to be awarded 100 points by Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, while Viña Real 1947 and 1959—two historic reds from Rioja Alavesa—have also received 100 points from the same publication.
CVNE owns more than 600 hectares of vineyards, and its portfolio includes six Gran Reserva wines from Rioja, alongside internationally renowned brands such as Cune, Spain’s favourite wine brand according to Nielsen (2024).
The company is a Gold Member of the IWCA and was the first Rioja winery to join this organisation, internationally recognised for its commitment to reducing emissions and achieving net zero by 2050.
At Wine Paris, visitors will have the opportunity to discover and taste some of CVNE’s most prestigious wines. These include our single-vineyard expressions from Rioja, such as Carromaza, La Virgen and Contino Viña del Olivo, as well as outstanding wines from other regions, including Galicia’s Virgen del Galir Regueirón—recently named White Wine of the Year by Beth Willard for Tim Atkin, with 98 points—and Ribera del Duero’s Áurea Minerva. The stand will also showcase new releases and recent vintages from our most renowned brands, ranging from our most accessible wines to our most exclusive cuvées, all united by a commitment to sustainable quality and a deep connection to their place of origin.
