CASA REAL PRESENTS ITS NEW 2022 VINTAGE AT LA PLACE DE BORDEAUX
• With this release, 30 vintages of excellence are celebrated for this emblematic Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon, produced only in exceptional years.
On September 11, Viña Santa Rita’s iconic wine, Casa Real, will unveil its new 2022 vintage at La Place de Bordeaux. A wine defined by freshness and elegance, it is the result of one of Alto Jahuel’s coolest seasons since 2014.
This launch marks the fifth consecutive year that the wine is presented through La Place de Bordeaux, the world’s most prestigious fine wine distribution network.
The 2022 release also represents a significant milestone: the production of 30 vintages since its inaugural harvest in 1989. Three decades of consistency, identity, and international recognition have established Casa Real as one of the great Cabernet Sauvignons of Alto Jahuel, the Maipo Valley, and the world.
“After 30 vintages, we can look back and see a journey faithful to the place and the style that has defined this wine throughout the years. Casa Real 2022 opens a new chapter, an opportunity to explore the evolution of the purest essence of Cabernet Sauvignon, reflecting the best of our tradition,” says Baltazar Sánchez, Chairman of Viña Santa Rita.
A PIONEER AMONG SOUTH AMERICAN ICONS
Since 1989, Casa Real has established itself as a benchmark among South America’s fine wines. It is the only Chilean icon wine made exclusively from Cabernet Sauvignon since its inception, representing the purest expression of this variety.
Its essence is rooted in a historic 20-hectare vineyard located in Alto Jahuel’s Carneros Viejo and Población sectors, planted ungrafted in the 1970s and 1980s. These old, massal-selection vines deliver grapes of exceptional quality, precisely reflecting the richness of Chile’s finest terroir for Cabernet Sauvignon.
Thanks to this authenticity, Casa Real was distinguished by Decanter as the first Latin American wine to be recognized as a Wine Legend. Since 2021, it has also been part of La Place de Bordeaux, becoming one of the first five Chilean wines to join this global network.
A VINTAGE THAT HONORS ALTO JAHUEL’S TERROIR
The 2022 season was unusually cool in Alto Jahuel, favoring slow and precise ripening. The result is a wine of great concentration, silky tannins, vibrant acidity, and exceptional depth.
“Casa Real 2022 is an exceptional wine, combining concentration and elegance. This fresh, vibrant vintage displays a deep ruby hue with pure aromas of blackcurrant, ripe cherries, and tobacco, accented by delicate spice notes. On the palate it shows complexity and structure, with broad, refined tannins that bring texture and persistence. A vintage of precision, freshness, and balance, built on pure fruit and solid structure, offering outstanding aging potential and a timeless expression of Alto Jahuel,” says Casa Real winemaker Sebastián Labbé, named one of the Master Top 100 Winemakers in the World by The Drinks Business.
Among its accolades: 97 points from Tim Atkin, who also named it among his Wines of the Year; 97 points from Vinous; and 96 points from James Suckling, who praised it as “restrained and complex, paying tribute to Left Bank Bordeaux (…) A testament to Chile’s ability to produce complex and nuanced Cabernets.”
Additionally, Wine Enthusiast awarded it 95 points and named it an Editor’s Choice. Finally, Descorchados 2025 gave it 98 points, highlighting it as one of the finest expressions of Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon.
CONSOLIDATING A LEGACY
Looking ahead, Casa Real will continue deepening its expression of Alto Jahuel, refining every detail to capture the terroir’s unique identity with even greater precision. Each vintage represents a new opportunity to explore and interpret this exceptional origin, honoring its essence and letting it shine in every bottle. It is a continuous path of refinement and a constant commitment to excellence.
