Millésime 2018 - A New Vintage That Confirms The Maison's Commitment to Excellence
Founded in 1868 in Ludes, Canard-Duchêne has been producing wines inspired by its terroir for nearly 160 years and has a fine collection of vintage champagnes in its cellars, dating back to 1976. This new opus joins the Maison’s oenotheque and offers a unique interpretation of 2018, celebrating the Pinot Noir of the Montagne de Reims. The 2018 vintage upholds Canard-Duchêne’s commitment to precision and its quest for excellence, initiated two decades ago.
The 2018 growing season was characterised by contrasts, beginning with a particularly wet winter, followed by a mild but stormy spring and then a dry, sunny summer with record-breaking temperatures. These marked contrasts, together with the presence of glorious sunshine throughout the ripening period and during the harvest, ensured that the grapes remained in perfect health and that the harvest was abundant and of impeccable quality.
The Expression of an Exceptional Vintage
The 2018 vintage is a precise blend of 55% Pinot Noir, mainly from the Grands Crus of the Montagne de Reims, such as Mailly and Ambonnay, giving structure, generosity and liveliness; and 45% Chardonnay, selected from the Côte des Blancs, from prestigious Crus such as Avize and Vertus, bringing fresh minerality and verticality to this magnificent blend. The result is a sunny, generous wine, the perfect balance between the expression of the year and the fresh, fruity style of Canard-Duchêne.
"The 2018 vintage is the interpretation of a great year in Champagne in the Maison style of Canard-Duchêne. It’s a subtle blend of the generosity and charm of our Pinot Noir, particularly from the Montagne de Reims, and the delicacy and freshness of carefully selected Chardonnays. A magnificent expression of this extraordinary year." - Cynthia Fossier, Cellars Master
