LaGravera, a leader in biodynamic and natural viticulture, proudly presents its new claret wine, the latest addition to the winery’s range of natural wines. This variety, which had nearly disappeared over the years, is making a strong comeback in the Spanish wine scene due to its potential to offer freshness and lightness in a market that increasingly values natural and refreshing wines.
This new claret wine is the result of a singular and innovative vinification process. It combines 85% Monastrell, fermented with just 10% of its skins, and 15% of ancient varieties—white, pink, and red—recovered from the historic El Vinyet vineyard and multiplied in LaGravera’s Biodiversity Collection. These varieties were added whole into the fermenting Monastrell, completing a natural semi-carbonic fermentation.
“With this claret wine, we wanted to recover and reimagine a part of our winemaking history, bringing new life to a tradition that seemed forgotten. Additionally, it’s a perfect response to the challenges posed by climate change and the growing demand for fresh, light wines with strong identity,” explains Ariadna, Sales Manager at LaGravera.
This claret wine joins the other two standout members of LaGravera’s natural wine range:
With this trio of natural wines, LaGravera strengthens its commitment to sustainability, biodiversity, and innovation, while preserving the richness of its winemaking heritage.
About LaGravera
LaGravera is a unique winery project located in the heart of Lleida, Spain, devoted to producing certified organic and biodynamic wines with a strong focus on landscape restoration and biodiversity. The winery is renowned for cultivating vineyards from three different centuries: the 19th, 20th, and 21st, including the historic El Vinyet plot planted in 1889. These vineyards feature ancestral local grape varieties, some of which are endangered, embodying the rich winemaking heritage of the region. The wines are unparalleled in the world for their composition and artisanal style.
LaGravera’s portfolio showcases the diversity and richness of the land, with 28 grape varieties planted on gypsum-rich soils, owing to the winery’s location near Europe’s longest gypsum mountain range. All wines are crafted with minimal intervention, employing spontaneous fermentations using wild yeasts and bacteria. This approach allows the terroir to be fully expressed, imbuing each wine with a distinctive character.
