Start with Alvarinho
Start your dinner with the Messala Bruto Alvarinho sparkling wine (€22). This sparkling wine from the family-run company Grande Porto Vinhos e Bebidas (Rua Martins de Castro, 160, Gondomar. Tel. 224663220), founded in 2005, won the Grand Gold medal at this year's Wine Competition of the Comissão de Viticultura da Região dos Vinhos Verdes. It is made from the queen grape variety of the Monção and Melgaço sub-region of the Vinho Verde Demarcated Region - Alvarinho. It has a fine, persistent bubble; it is elegant and shows acidity, complexity and persistence in the mouth. It's perfect as an aperitif, as well as with seafood, which opens the hostilities at the table on the evening of the farewell to the year 2024.
