Amor Vitae is a winery located in Lazio region, more precisely in the Agro Pontino valley, about 30 km south-west from Rome.
The vines stand on a volcanic soil, close by the sea. We make conventional and organic wines.
We collect the grapes by hand and we do cryomaceration to express the aromas at their best. We are specialized in the production of the Roma DOC, as well Lazio's native grapes like Cesanese and Bellone, but we do as well international varieties like Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Amor Vitae is the dream of three siblings, Virginia, Antonio and Veronica, that starting from the love for the land of their father, who used to sell his grapes, decided to start a winery that cares about the life and the planet (the meaning of Amor Vitae in Latin).
Casata Mergè overlooks the rolling hills of the Castelli Romani, on the border between Frascati and Monte Porzio Catone, an area with a typically Mediterranean climate and a centuries-old winemaking tradition. Chosen by the ancient Romans as a privileged holiday destination, this land has long been renowned for the quality of its wines.
The history of the Mergè family begins in the early 20th century with Manlio Mergè and his wife, farmers by trade. In 1960, his son Luigi transformed the family’s viticulture into a structured production. Today, four generations later, his children and grandchildren continue to carry forward this legacy, combining respect for tradition with modern technology.
Casata Mergè carefully preserves historic vineyards over 50 years old, alongside selected replantings and innovative cultivation techniques. One of the estate’s vineyards alone extends over 30 contiguous hectares, covering an entire valley at the foot of Monte Porzio Catone. The vines, trained using the Guyot system, are cultivated mainly with Malvasia Puntinata del Lazio, Trebbiano Giallo and Greco, on extraordinary volcanic soils that give the wines their distinctive character.
Production focuses on native appellations such as Frascati Superiore DOCG, Frascati Superiore Riserva DOCG and Roma DOC, alongside a refined selection of Italian and international varieties. This vision also extends beyond Lazio, with the production of Biancolella from the iconic island of Ponza, a wine that captures the pure Mediterranean essence of a rare and evocative terroir. Vinification follows traditional methods, with careful ageing—especially for structured red wines—resulting in elegant, pure wines that express a perfect balance between heritage and innovation.

Surrounded by the Cesanese and Passerina del frusinate vineyards, in the rolling hills of Piglio, you’ll find Azienda Agricola L'avventura and its Wine Resort Casale Verdeluna. Founded in 2015 by Stefano Matturro and Gabriella Grassi, this reality was born from the dream of two wine enthusiasts who, with a pinch of madness and a lot of determination, turned an idea into a life project... at the age of 50!
The philosophy: “Producers of Happiness”
The name ‘L’avventura’ perfectly reflects the philosophy of the company: a journey into the unknown, as life is, a continuous discovery day after day. Stefano and Gabriella, with their innate curiosity and desire to learn, have faced the challenges of the agricultural sector with an entrepreneurial spirit and a large dose of humanity. As Stefano says, the goal is not to produce a technically perfect wine, but to create a product that arouses emotions.
The company's logo encapsulates the founding values: the tree of life, symbol of vitality and continuity; the tractor, representation of hard work; grapes, the very essence of the winemaking adventure; and two hands joining, symbol of solidarity and creation. The company's claim, ‘Producers of Happiness’, underlines their aspiration to provide not only a quality wine, but a unique human and emotional experience. Their personal experience has driven them towards a conviction that they truly put into practice: ‘Nobody with us stays behind’.
The wines: like people, each has its own character.
L’avventura stands out for its ability to innovate and for this strong propensity to always emphasise the importance of the human component in relation also to the environment in which it lives.
The wines, which are striking with their original labels, have different and well-defined characters, even though they come from only three grape varieties: Cesanese (d'Affile and Comune), Passerina del frusinate and Pinot nero.
‘Campanino’ was born from the idea of creating a ‘pinot nero style’ Cesanese, fresh and fragrant; ‘Picchiatello’ represents a modern reinterpretation of the traditional Cesanese aged in large barrels; ‘Gabinius’, a pure pinot noir, a feat considered arduous by experts, is yielding excellent results; “Amor”, a Cesanese aged in barriques, characterised by a perfect balance between robustness, softness and a fresh balsamic verve, is capable of winning over a very wide public.
A total of eleven labels are produced, including two Metodo Classico proposals made from indigenous grape varieties and two interpretations of Passerina del Frusinate.
The Link with the Territory
The link with the territory is another distinctive element. Stefano was born a few kilometres from Piglio and has chosen to valorise the indigenous Cesanese grape variety by adhering to the Cesanese del Piglio appellation, a DOCG that produces high quality wines but is still relatively little known nationally and internationally. The variability of the area's microclimate and soil allows for the production of highly characterised wines, thanks to careful microzonation and targeted winemaking techniques.
Sustainability and Social Inclusion
L’avventura is not only synonymous with quality, but also with sustainability and social commitment. The company adopts regenerative organic farming practices and has initiated social inclusion projects. These values of respect for people and the environment are an integral part of the company's mission and contribute to creating an authentic and sustainable product: ‘In the bottle there is not only the grape, but also the intentions, the choices and the soul of those who produce it. We must learn to consciously choose the products we bring to the table'.
The entire production process is certified organic.
L'avventura Farm and the Casale Verdeluna Wine Resort represent a virtuous model in the Latium wine scene. Stefano and Gabriella, with their adventure, prove that it is possible to achieve what you believe in with courage, perseverance and a deep love for what you do. Spending time in their establishment means tasting high quality wines and food, but above all living an experience that you will not forget and that you will take home with you.
