Champagne Gonet Sulcova - Epernay
A Family Business
Four generations of winegrowers have succeeded one another in the vines, making them a benchmark for the independent domains of Champagne Vincent Gonet and his wife Davy Sulcova took the reins of the estate in 1985, and decided to settle in Épernay in order to create their brand “Gonet-Sulcova”. When it was created it was an avant-garde house, which broke the traditional codes of champagne bottles. Davy Sulcova designed all the bottles.
Their children Karla and Yan-Alexandre took over the family estate in the 2000s. They brought to the domain new vintages with the respect and the demands this product requires. Their champagnes always have low dosage, so as not to mask the original juice and so that the terroir can fully express itself in each bottle. Blending is also fundamental for the house. It is made within the family and the decision can be made not to market some years. A courageous choice, if the cuvée does not meet the requirement and the taste of the owners. This is the signature of the Gonet-Sulcova house!
Three terroirs
Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and Oger in the Côte des Blancs 100% planted with Chardonnay. Located 15 km to the South of Epernay, on a hard chalk soil, it is the terroir of the Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs, They have a mineral and marked citrus taste.
The hill of Montgueux, 9 km away from Troyes, has a soil composed of very hard chalk. This terroir favours the cultivation of Chardonnay creates wines with more exotic aromas, sometimes reaching mango or pineapple flavours. However some 2 hectares of Pinot Noir are also worked there and are mainly used to elaborate our Brut réserve and Rosés.
Finally, Loches-Sur-Ource between Bar-sur-Seine and Essoyes. Its landscape can be described as a succession of small valleys and hills where the soil remains chalky. Land of Pinot Noirs and Meuniers, these grape varieties are less precocious than the Chardonnay. The presence of clay in the soil gives to the grapes stronger and wilder aromas which regularly enrich our rosés and sometimes our Brut. The whole vineyard is under a level 3 High Environmental Value certification (or Haute Valeur Environnementale) since 2020 and got the Viticulture Durable en Champagne certification in 2024. More precisely, it means a work of the soil and a respect of biodiversity.
