Co-exposant de PAYS D'OC IGP
A family estate since 1928, it was in the early 2000's that Philippe Girard took over the torch from 4 generations of winegrowers. Located in the village of Alaigne in the Aude region, the estate extends over thirty hectares where Philippe, a committed independent winegrower, cultivates a diversity of grape varieties expressing all their character: Chardonnay for the whites, Pinot Noir and Syrah for the atypicals and of course Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Malbec for the elaboration of our AOC Malepère. This unusual terroir is characterized by a location enhanced by the backdrop of the Pyrenees which allows oceanic influences to compete with the dominant Mediterranean omnipresent everywhere else in Languedoc. The northern grape varieties that are grown here benefit from both the clay-limestone soil and a particularly favorable climate thanks to the altitude, which moderates the summer heat. Concerned about the quality of our harvests, our vines have been cultivated for several years with respect for the environment. The national certification of the domain in "High Environmental Value" allows us to return to positive and sustainable practices while meeting the expectations of consumers concerned about the quality of their food and the future of the planet. Today we produce a range of 9 cuvées including our whites which are exclusively made from Chardonnay and are characterized by their aromatic and refreshing profile. The harvest is done mechanically, at night, in order to preserve the freshness of the fruit. When the harvest is received, a selection of juices is made during the pressing process to keep only the best. Then, according to the profile sought, they will be elaborated either in vats (in order to preserve the beautiful minerality typical of the Chardonnay), or in barrels of 500 liters (for a finer and fatter wine). The reds are harvested by hand and then transported in small containers in order to limit the crushing of the fruit. The Pinot Noir (which combines freshness and greediness of red fruits) as well as our Malepères (with aromas of black fruits and spices) are available in vats but also in barrels (500 liters) for a range of more complex and long-lasting products. But we have also selected 3 emblematic parcels from which more upmarket cuvées are made: Chardonnay Las Salvios, Pinot Noir Pech Calvel and Malepère Cuvée Néri. "It is here, in the Cathar country, that this exceptional Languedoc nature gives birth to the great Malepère wines".
