Established in 1859 by my great great grandfather, the cooper-craftsman Jean-Edouard Dupard, Domaine Jean Chartron has been governed until now by five generations concerned with both the expansion and prosperity of the prestigious vineyards as the management of the rural district. The village owes him its name. In 1873, Jean-Edouard Dupard as mayor of Puligny, asked the city council to authorize by decision that the name Montrachet - the most prestigious local growth name - could be added to Puligny, the original name of the village. Today, and since 1995, I do my best to run Domaine Jean Chartron and its 14 hectares of vineyards in Puligny-Montrachet and in the neighbourhood, the majority of them being classified 1er and Grands Crus. By the way, 3 of these vineyards are monopoles (owned by us only) of Domaine Jean Chartron since 1917 : Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru « Clos de la Pucelle » Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru « Clos du Cailleret » Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru « Clos des Chevaliers » With an average age of 40 years, all our vineyards are managed under the purest respect of the environment. Thus, from the culture of the vine until the bottling process, everything at the Domaine, is done respectfully of tradition. Domaine Jean Chartron wines are for me a world full of emotion, of rigor and with a constant search for perfection. This willing of perfection has no other aim than to make wines which truly express their terroirs and transmit these terroirs (plus few more if possible !) and this heritage to the next generation
