The Centre-Loire region, the historic birthplace of Sauvignon blanc, embodies a unique know-how and a winegrowing tradition recognized worldwide. However, in the face of climate change and its multiple impacts, the longevity of this heritage may be questioned. The winemakers of the Centre-Loire have been aware of this for a while, and have come to the conclusion that action is needed.

For the past decade, CEPS SICAVAC has been a key player in this transition. This unique winemaking project in France, born from a collaboration between the Centre-Loire appellations, SICAVAC, BIVC, GEST and partner nurseries, and is carrying out fundamental work on the genetic diversity of Sauvignon blanc and Pinot noir varieties. Now an indispensable part of the Centre-Loire region, CEPS SICAVAC is a vital tool for vine multiplication, adaptation and research on plant material.

To highlight these challenges and the pioneering initiatives of CEPS SICAVAC, this masterclass offers an in-depth exploration of the future of Sauvignon blanc in Centre-Loire. Hosted by Michelle Bouffard, renowned Canadian journalist, sommelier and educator, founder of the international symposium Tasting Climate Change ; this conference will also bring together Jean-Baptiste Roblin, Technical Director of CEPS SICAVAC, Loïc Cailbourdin and Alban Roblin, winegrowers involved in the project, and partner nurseries. Together, they will share their experiences, their research and their vision of a sustainable future for the emblematic grape variety of the Centre-Loire region.

An exceptional comparative tasting will showcase the concrete advances made by CEPS SICAVAC, illustrated by their massal selections of Sauvignon blanc over two vintages. Finally, the screening of the film “La naissance d'un Cep” (The Birth of a Vine), will bring this immersion to a close, offering an unprecedented look at the stages involved in the birth of a high-quality CEPS SICAVAC vine.
