Rattalino Massimo winery was born in Barbaresco, in the heart of the Langhe region, fruit of the love of the owner Massimo for this noble, ancient and generous land.
The intent is to create something unique: cultivate the vine to obtain exceptional grapes, adding character
and sophistication with flawless winemaking. The dream of devoting himself to viticulture and the passion for
great wine soon became an ambitious project: making wine mainly Nebbiolo and betting on this unique variety, yet
capable of proposing itself to the new and more demanding international markets, without compromising.
All of this, of course, without neglecting other vines, such as Arneis, Barbera, Dolcetto and Moscato, profoundly
rooted in Piedmontese viticulture; the same attention is paid to each nuance, in total respect for the territory.
The dream has now become a solid reality, constantly evolving and always looking for new horizons
towards which to expand, without ever forgetting one's roots and one's land.
Since it was founded in 1982, the family-managed Salvano winery loves to keep a strict relationship with the traditions, the flavors and aromas of the Langhe land and take them around the world. After gaining popularity and success in Italy, in the 90s Salvano wines began to be exported to Europe, USA, Canada, China, Singapore, Japan, Philippines. Tradition and innovation are reflected in the classic and elegant line designed for the great wines (Barolo, Barbaresco, Nebbiolo, Pinot nero, Barbera, Dolcetto, Arneis, Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Timorasso Colli Tortonesi), and in the unique packaging of the bottles made by hand with sealing wax and ribbons (Barolo riserva, Diano Alba, Langhe Nebbiolo, Langhe Rosso):
VINCHIO VAGLIO: THE NEST OF BARBERA The name results from both Vinchio and Vaglio Serra villages where nineteen vine growers used to live and founded the cooperative in 1959. We are located in Piedmont, Monferrato, core zone of UNESCO World Heritage Patrimony, right at the foot of the Alps. Nowadays the cooperative represents nearly 200 family vine growers who take daily care of 500 hectares mostly planted in Barbera grapes (70% of our production) and all other indigenous grapes from Piedmont such as Nebbiolo, Dolcetto, Ruché, Albarossa, Grignolino, Arneis, Cortese, Moscato and Brachetto and other famous international grapes such as Pinot Nero, Sauvignon and Chardonnay.
Our territory is characterized by a distinctive terroir of calcareous soils and sandy soils in Vinchio and mostly clay soils in Vaglio Serra what makes the Barbera of Vinchio Vaglio unique for the structure (white soils), elegance (sandy soils) and aromas (clay soils). The winery mixes very traditional viticultural methods, like manual work in the vineyards including hand harvesting with modern practices, such as temperature controlled stainless steel tanks, solar panels and a high tech bottling line.
In 1987, the winery has a visionary project to maintain and protect the oldest vineyards of minimum 50 years vines of Barbera from which the brand Vigne Vecchie born. Nowadays, the cooperative is part of a unique and international network established by UK MW the so called The Old Vine Conference.
Our winery is surrounded by the path of the nests, “il sentiero dei nidi”, that opens onto the Natural Reserve of Val Sarmassa, an incredible overview of our landscape and biodiversity mixing steep slopes hills vineyards, woods, hazelnut trees and asparagus cultivation.

“How many vineyards did our ancestors pluck from the woods, choosing the most exposed hilltops and slopes so that the grapes that yielded good wine would ripen perfectly? Thousands of arms, mattocks, ‘zapponi’ and shovels contributed to this colossal work, in years without any written records, when very active, frenetic peasants, capable of the miracles created by necessity, uprooted enormous trees, planting Barberas capable of withstanding the drought of the shell-full sands and steep slopes and producing unparalleled grapes” - Franco Laiolo, writer from Vinchio.
