Co-exhibitor of Wines of Germany
Uli Metzger is the third generation to run the family business and is proud that his two daughters are already the fourth generation to work hard. After completing his apprenticeship in the southern Palatinate, he joined the family business straight away.
Today, Uli Metzger and his team manage 32 hectares of their own vineyards, and winegrower friends who are equally committed to quality bring in more grapes in the autumn. Reducing yields and good canopy management are essential for him. As much as possible is picked by hand, even in several passes. “Time and good staff” are the most important quality measures for Uli Metzger.
In 2011, daughter Lea Metzger wanted to spice up the labels a bit, which, as Uli Metzger says today, “set off an avalanche”. The newly designed labels and the company’s overall external image are very recognizable. At the same time as this change, Uli Metzger also presented the first wines at tastings. Perhaps it was this combination that brought success. The German Red Wine Award, four grapes in the Gault Millau and four stars in the Vinum Wine Guide are just a few of the successes that the winery can boast. Well-known restaurateurs and retailers also have the wines on their menus.
Uli Metzger is certain: “You can never rest on your laurels when it comes to quality” and needs “a healthy ambition to produce great wines every year.”
His hobby is his job: “Seven days a week, everything revolves around wine.”
