Wine has been part of the Esterhazy family for centuries: The first evidence of Esterhazy viticulture in Burgenland dates back to 1612, with cellar records dating back to 1758. In 2023, a new important milestone was set with the completion of organic certification. Hand-picked grapes from six surrounding communities, up to a maximum of ten kilometers from the winery, thrive on shell limestone and mica schist vineyards farmed without irrigation. Gentle pruning, careful soil cultivation and organic compost from the neighboring Esterhazy organic estate promote the vitality of the plants and ensure optimal grape growth. Since 2023, the winery has been using an innovative technology: three of the largest concrete eggs in the world (3,800 liters), made from 30% Pauliberg basalt. Sales manager and authorized signatory Wolfgang Hewarth and his team are thus working on a vision: to use the conditions on the Leithaberg to produce vibrant cool-climate wines with structure, character and racy acidity - while clearly expressing their origin.
