The VDP.Weingut Dr. Hermann, with more than 17 hectare of vineyards, is managed by Christian Hermann. Winegrowing has been a tradition in the Hermann family for several hundred years.
The present estate was created in 1967 when the renowned estate Joh. Jos. Christoffel Erben in Ürzig was divided for inheritance reasons and Christian’s grandfather, the physician Dr. Hermann, founded his own wine estate with his share of the vineyards.
In successive years vineyard ownership was steadily expanded and following the construction of a spacious and modern cellar, production was moved from Ürzig to Erden.
The main focus is on growing Riesling wines on the steep slopes. Most of the vineyards in the famous sites “Erdener Prälat“, “Erdener Treppchen“, "Erdener Herzlei", "Wehlener Sonnenuhr", "Piesporter Goldtröpfchen" and the “Ürziger Würzgarten“ are planted with exclusive ungrafted vines to provide the finest Riesling. These vineyards are amongst the richest in tradition worldwide - high quality wine was produced here by the Romans almost 2000 years ago.
