Co-exhibitor of CONSORZIO DI TUTELA VINI D ABRUZZO

Vinum Hadrianum is a winery nestled in the historic hills of Atri, Abruzzo, in the heart of central Italy, between the Adriatic Sea and the Gran Sasso mountains. This privileged location benefits from a unique microclimate that is ideal for viticulture. Our estate’s name, Vinum Hadrianum, means “wine from Hadria.” The emblem of our winery—an ancient bronze coin—was once minted in Hadria itself, a reminder of the city’s remarkable past. In Roman times, Hadria stood as a flourishing cultural and trading center, complete with its own port that linked Rome to the Adriatic Sea. Many believe the Adriatic takes its name from this historic city.
At Vinum Hadrianum, we’re devoted to reviving the ancient winemaking traditions of Rome, crafting wines that express both history and terroir. What makes us truly unique is our use of handmade clay amphorae, created by artisans from Castelli, a town famous for its centuries-old ceramic craftsmanship. This ancient technique enriches the wines with remarkable depth and authenticity, capturing the pure essence of Abruzzo. Our wine collection features five styles of wine: pet nat white, still whites, and rosé, all aged in stainless steel tanks, while our orange and red wines age in amphorae and steel.
We farm organically, obtain low yields per hectare, and maintain minimal intervention in the cellar to let the terroir shine through in every bottle. We craft wines that express the true character of Abruzzo’s native grape varieties — Montepulciano, Trebbiano, Pecorino, Passerina, and Montonico. We produce five styles of wine: sparkling white, still whites, and rosé, all aged in stainless steel, while our orange and red wines age in amphorae, carrying whispers of ancient tradition.
Terroir
Our vineyards sit on 5 different municipalities: Atri, Pineto, Cellino Attanasio, Castilenti and Bisenti on hills at an elevation between 150 to 600 meters over the sea level that benefit from sea breezes. The soils are a mix of clay and gravel: clay adds body, colour, richness, and reliable water retention, while gravel ensures excellent drainage, minerality, and freshness. Together, they shape wines that are structured, resulting in complex, structured, often mineral-driven wines with vibrant aromas.
