Moropoulos family has had a long-time tradition in vine-growing in Mantinia zone, producing high-quality fruit over the last decades. The family's new generation decided to take this heritage a step further by establishing their own winery in 2015. The intention is to showcase the character of their private-owned vineyards and their respect to the Arcadian land.
Our family cultivates 12ha of vines at high altitude (680-700m) upon well-drained rocky clay and loamy soils and important part is under an organic certification. Our intention is to craft small bathes each vintage after strict selection creating a qualitative base and estimate the potential of each parcel.
Being growers sacrificed to a unique variety, we produce five different wines based on 100% Moschofilero!
-A PDO Mantinia which is a blend of our parcel selection that is vinified on stainless steel,
-A pink version of our multidimensional variety after a long skin contact maceration
-A late harvest Moschofilero called Noemvris which is the latest-harvest made wine in Greece
We also recently launched a sparkling expression of PDO Mantinia made by traditional method and a single-vineyard expression of a single vineyard planted back in 1972!
Regarding our land, Mantinia region has a long tradition in viticulture, dating back to the ancient times as evidenced by numerous archaeological finds, linking the region with wine production and the worship of the god Dionysus. Homer had named Mantinia “polyampelo gi” which means “land of many vines”. Mount Mainalo was also home to Pan and the Ancient Arcadians worshiped the god Pan to the same degree that they worshiped Dionysus. In fact, this is one of the coldest wine-growing regions in Greece, despite its relatively low latitude. Cool temperatures during summer slow ripening sufficiently for the grapes to retain their characteristic acidity and harvest can sometimes come as late as October. It is normally the latest harvest of the country. Moschofilero is an indigenous variety of the region and one of the most interesting Greek varieties, it has a special aromatic profile, keeps freshness and high acidity. It is considered as a grey variety and some clones has more reddish hue.
We look forward creating fruitful long-term collaborations and increasing our export activity. For this reason, we would be happy to explore collaboration opportunities with professionals from abroad who wish to include wines from a Greek boutique winery in their selective portfolio.
