Morgante winery was born in Sicily, in the lovely countryside of Grotte, a small city in the southern province of Agrigento, once very well-known for its sulphur mines. This project began as the ambition of a family of agriculturists using the knowledge gained over five generations as grape-growers.
In 1989, Antonio Morgante, with enthusiastic support of his sons Carmelo and Giovanni, decided to vinify his own grapes. This decision represented the beginning of a strong commitment to achieve the best results with the indigenous grape Nero D’Avola, the only endemic red grape variety of great importance in Sicily, which the Morgante family has always grown.
In 1997, a stroke of luck brought renowned oenological consultant Riccardo Cotarella to the winery. With Riccardo, the Morgante family has advanced their agricultural experimentation and refined their vinification techniques with the aim of producing world-class wines from 100% Nero d'Avola grapes.
