Co-exhibitor of REGIONE SICILIANA
A story which began in the seventies with about twenty hectares of vineyards located in the hills north-east of the small village of Campobello di Licata, in the Agrigento area. A family company, built by passionate winemakers. Giuseppina Milazzo, her husband Saverio Lo Leggio and their son Giuseppe, all grown up in the winery, have been running the winery for more than eleven years.
Today the vineyards extend for 97 hectares, located on a hilly area at about 400 meters above sea level and 20 km from the sea, in an area called Terre della Baronia, which is characterized by a significant variety of soils, to which correspond equally varied microclimatic conditions. Terre della Baronia area comprehends 8 districts (contrade), splitted into several sub-areas, offering a perfect combination between soil and position, microclimate and grape variety.
Milazzo chose to focus its production on autochthonous varieties such as: Nero d'Avola, Perricone and Nerello Cappuccio for the red; Inzolia and Catarratto Lucido for the whites; to which are added some selected international varieties such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier and Pinot Noir. Pioneer in the introduction of organic farming, started this path since the mid 1980's. It was the first to experiment Traditional Method Sparkling Wine production in Sicily. The philosophy that guides Azienda Agricola G. Milazzo has always been that of an artisanal viticulture, based on the knowledge of the land, of the vine, of manual workmanship and creativity in interpreting these elements, together with the ability to exploit the best characteristics of climate and soil. A palmares of more than 600 awards in the main international oenological competitions, with a significant amount of gold medals awarded to the whole range of wines produced.
