Portugal
Co-exhibitor of Bairrada Wines
Luís Pato inherited from his father, João Pato, not only a deep knowledge of the vineyard, but also an uncompromising and pioneering spirit. In 1980, he released his first wine: a single-varietal Baga of remarkable quality and extremely limited production — a wine that is still sought after today as a true treasure by collectors and wine lovers around the world.
He was also among the first Portuguese producers to take his wines beyond national borders. More than forty years ago, he set off with a suitcase filled with bottles of Baga, Bical and other indigenous grape varieties from Bairrada, surprising sommeliers, importers and wine enthusiasts who immediately recognized something truly distinctive in those wines.
Luís Pato’s wines revealed the true essence of the region:
• Freshness, shaped by Atlantic influence.
• Fruit character, born from clay-limestone hillside soils.
• Elegance and longevity, the result of balanced fermentations and precisely managed ageing in oak.
Luís Pato was a solitary rebel, sparking a revolution in a region that, at the time, had yet to recognize its own potential. Where others saw immovable tradition, he saw the future.
