The origins of Averoff Winery date back to the late 1950s, when Evangelos Averoff planted Greece’s first Cabernet Sauvignon vines on the steep slopes of the Pindus mountains and produced the wine that would become Katogi Averoff. His pioneering effort was part of a broader vision to revive the region’s abandoned vineyards and restore its long-standing viticultural heritage.
Sixty-five years later, under the leadership of Alexandros Ioannou, grandson of E. Averoff, the winery continues to cultivate vineyards in the Metsovo area, focusing on indigenous varieties and the development of wine tourism. The estate also includes a distillery and the adjacent Katogi Averoff Hotel, an ideal base for exploring authentic Metsovo.
