Co-exhibitor of VDP. DIE PRAEDIKATSWEINGUETER
The renowned family estate is one of Germany's largest privately owned wine estates. At the foothills of the Steigerwald, east of Würzburg, the family grows mainly Silvaner, Riesling, Scheurebe, and Pinot varieties on almost 90 hectares of vineyards. As a member of the VDP, Weingut Wirsching is one of the 200 famous estates in Germany, uncompromisingly seeking the best. In viticulture, for over 380 years, many generations have carried on the legacy. Dr. Heinrich Wirsching and his brother Hans led the estate into Germany's top ranks, Andrea Wirsching is running the business, and her sister Lena will continue the female leadership.
Franconia is a small wine region in northern Bavaria, known mainly for the typical bulbous bottle, the Bocksbeutel. Viticulture has been practiced here for over 1000 years. The most famous grape variety is Silvaner, a dry white wine that has been produced for centuries and goes particularly well with fish and vegetarian dishes. Its mild acidity affords it to be completely fermented. The wines from Iphofen grow on gypsum, a gray-brown sedimentary rock with a lot of fossilized organic material that can keep heat and water. This soil provides unexpected, wild scents and great, spicy elegance. The most famous vineyard, the Iphöfer Julius-Echter-Berg, is one of the great classics of Germany. Since it is also the hottest site in Franconia, Rieslings and Pinots of exceptional quality ripen here.
