The internationally renowned estate Wwe. Dr. H. Thanisch Erben Müller-Burgraef is located in the 2015-built state-of-the-art estate building boasting an elegant wine shop and many panoramic windows that provide luxurious views of gorgeous vineyard sceneries along the Mosel River.
The building was made of heat-insulating concrete which allows optimal storage. In the subterranean cellar temperatures remain perfectly steady. During harvest, the wine gently flows into the respective tanks via “Free Flow” from the press hall into the subterranean cellar.
The estate building also makes use of natural resources: Rainwater is collected in two underground cisterns and used for cleaning while the winery’s photovoltaic system generates power.
Here, estate manager Maximilian Ferger cultivates 16 hectares (40 acres) of topnotch, steep slope Riesling sites. Aside from the Berncasteler Doctor and the Scharzhofberg (located in Wiltingen at the Saar valley), first-class vineyards such as Bernkasteler Graben, Bernkasteler Lay and Bernkasteler Badstube complement the estate’s site portfolio.
Since 2016 we are a member of Der Ring Mosel 1899, former Bernkasteler Ring Der Ring - Der Ring Mosel e.V. - Riesling-Weingüter)
and are as well as a member of Fair’n’ Green ( www.fairandgreen.de) since 2016 which is starting to become more and more popular regarding sustainability in Europe.
Der Ring Mosel 1899 is an association of 40 estates on the Mosel, Saar and Ruwer - from Wiltingen on the Saar to Winningen at the Mosel terraces (Terrassen Mosel) – which share their passion to prise outstanding premium wines from the unique steep vineyard sites of the MOSEL wine cultural landscape.
FAIR'N GREEN is the system for sustainable viticulture. It covers the areas of management, environmental protection and corporate social responsibility. The wineries are yearly audited by sustainability experts and subject to the standard of FAIR and GREEN e.V. which puts forth high requirements in all areas of sustainability.
I am the estate manager and winemaker since sixteen years by now and still amazed and thrilled from the unique Mosel valley with its steep slopes. We practise sustainably viticulture and produce the wines under organic guidelines as much as possible, which means that we are not spraying any herbicides, insecticides or use any industrial fertilizers in the vineyards. Nearly all wines are fermented with natural yeast to underline the terroir from each vineyard and do not contain any additives, enzymes and very low levels of sulphites.
Our wine range lasts from the basic level entry wine up but our focus are on the higher predicate wines starting from Kabinett up to Trockenbeerenauslese and the well-known dry GG’s (Großes Gewächs/Great Growth). Since 2000 we are happy to produce outraging Pinot Noirs as well and since several years we produce a very successful non alcoholic wine an descent sparkling wines (Riesling&Pinot Noir Rosé&Crémant).
