Domaine du Bourgeais is a family estate of 38 hectares of vines located in the Loire Valley, specialized in the prodcution of Muscadet Sèvre et Maine with this single and unique grape variety: Melon de Bourgogne.
The rich experience and inspirationbrought back by eldest son Clément from his travels - in Burgundy, the United States, New Zealand and Sancerre -made it only natural for him to join the family estate. With a head full of new ideas, like plot selection, skin maceration, SO2-free winemaking, etc., he is now in charge of the vineyard’s wine sales.
At Domaine du Bourgeais, our Melon de Bourgogne grows on five separate plots with different soils comprising varying degrees of sand, and a subsoil of micaschist or orthogneiss. The age of the vines varies from five to 70 years. Each plot is made into a separate wine, in underground or stainless steel vats. This allows us to offer a broad range of Melon de Bourgogne wines made with different maturation processes, such as oakageing, a short period on lees (4 months), or long lees ageing (34 months).
It is in keeping with this philosophy that we opted to employ sustainable winegrowing methods (High Environmental Value level 3) and are now beginning a conversion to organic farming with biodynamic influence. The first certified organic vintage was harvested in 2023.
