LOIRE VALLEY : CANNED WINE / NATURALLY LOW-ALCOHOL
PRESENTATION:
The Domaine des Herbauges is a family-owned winery established in 1864, spanning four generations of winemakers. Today, Jérôme Choblet, grandson of the fourth generation, leads the estate with a deep respect for both tradition and the environment. The vineyard now covers 107 hectares, thanks to acquisitions and plantings over recent years, making it a leader in the region and the Muscadet Côtes de GrandLieu sur Lie appellation. After 20 years of practicing sustainable agriculture, the Domaine adopted integrated, eco-conscious viticulture, achieving Terra Vitis and HVE4 certifications. Committed to quality and authenticity, the estate is also BRCGS-certified. Specializing in still and sparkling Loire Valley white wines, Domaine des Herbauges exports 90% of its production to 60 countries. With a focus on quality and customer satisfaction, the estate offers a diverse range of terroirs and guarantees exclusivity to its partners for a seamless collaboration.
LOCATION:
The Domaine des Herbauges vineyard is located south of Nantes, nestled between the Muscadet Sèvre et Maine vineyards and the Atlantic Ocean. Its AOC Muscadet Côtes de GrandLieu slopes and other Vin de Pays vineyards border the shores of GrandLieu Lake, benefiting from a unique microclimate. Warm Atlantic winds bring an early spring, while the lake acts as a giant heat reservoir during the vine’s growth period. This microclimate encourages advanced ripening, essential for producing intensely fruity wines.
VINEYARD MANAGEMENT:
Careful vineyard management ensures precise monitoring of grape development, enabling optimal harvest timing. In spring, meticulous debudding separates future clusters, ensuring ventilation and sun exposure to prevent rot. In summer, leaf thinning around the clusters enhances sunlight exposure. These essential steps result in ripe, healthy grapes concentrated in aromas, producing wines of remarkable depth. Harvesting is done mechanically using state-of-the-art equipment with optical sorters.
VINIFICATION:
The grapes are delicately pressed in an inert-atmosphere pneumatic press. The musts are then cold-settled for 4 to 10 days to preserve their aromatic potential. Fermentation occurs gently at controlled temperatures in underground glass-lined tanks, where the wines also mature on fine lees for several months before bottling. This meticulous process results in wines that are harmonious, aromatic, and mineral-driven.
INNOVATION:
In addition to producing premium Loire Valley white wines in bottles, we also offer canned wines, leveraging the latest bottling and canning technology from GAI. After years of R&D, we’ve crafted a Naturally Low-Alcohol cuvée at 8.5% ABV, achieved without de-alcoholization or acidification.
