Les Vignals is a Domaine located in Cestayrols, deep in the heart of the Gaillac Vineyard, in the South West of France (50 minutes drive from Toulouse).
The Gaillac area has a long wine making history since Antiquity for over 2,000 years and its vineyards is one of the oldest in France. It represents a rich ‘terroir’ with a wide diversity of landscapes, and was awarded the « AOP » designation in 1938 (French equivalent of PDO – Protected Designation of Origin) to guarantee the excellence of Gaillac wines.
Our winemaker, Olivier Jean has been in charge since 2003. In 2010, Olivier took on the challenge of converting the growing and harvesting of the grapes in a more environmentally friendly manner. His efforts were rewarded when the Domaine obtained the Organic Certification in 2013, followed in 2020 with the highly recognized biodynamic label “DEMETER”.
The property has 75 ha of vineyards plus 20 ha of other season changing crops; 4 beehives and a flock of 12 sheepand 1 ram.
Deeply attached to our ‘terroir’, we cultivate local grapes uniquely grown in the Gaillac area, such as Braucol and Duras (red), Mauzac and Loin de L’œil (white) resulting in wines with a distinct personality.
We have 5 different ranges of wines, producing in total 18 labels:
1. ‘SOIF-ART’ – our everyday drinking range with a white, red and rosé offering.
2. ‘HERBE FOLLE’ – our next range of wines with the Gaillac AOP label (6 types: dry white, perlé white, sweet white, rosé, traditional red as well as the matured in oak barrels red).
3. ‘LA FAUVETTE’ – our ‘Reserve’ wines (4 types: dry and sweet white, and 2 reds).
4. ‘L’INNOCENT’ – sparkling, ’methode classique’ (2 types: white brut and rosé semi-dry).
5. Certified ‘VIN METHODE NATURE’- no added sulphites (3 wines: 1 orange and 2 reds).
We vinify our production in stainless steel vats, stoneware and clay amphoras and wood barrels. As Vigneron Indépendant the wines are bottled all year long on site. In 2022, 260.000 bottles came out of our ‘chai’ in different sizes such as 500ml, 750ml and 1,5 L.
80% of our sales are domestic with the export market increasing year on year; expanding our clients base in Switzerland, Italy, Netherlands, Belgium, Check Republic, Japan and Quebec etc.
The team in the office, as the cellar staff, is multilingual and multi-skilled coming from various horizons, with an extensive experience working abroad.
We don’t rest on our laurels and thrive to offer new ways to experience our wines and beautiful settings in Cestayrols.
Just consider that 11 years ago we started off the first ‘Apéro Concert’ night, which is going from strength to strength with almost 9000 people attending during summer 2023. People can sip our wines while dancing to live music and sampling local producers’ food, every Thursday night in July and August. In summer, we also organise picnic hampers with local produce for ramblers to take with them on their tour of our vineyards.
Do come and visit us. We will be pleased to show you around our beautiful Domaine, surrounded by nature, open the doors of our ‘chai’ and offer you a glass of our wine.
