Co-exhibitor of GRAND CERCLE DES VINS DE BORDEAUX
This historical estate (it was here that the treaty was signed after the battle of Castillon which put an end to the Hundred Years War in 1453) was taken over in 1997 by Jean-François and Dominique Quenin who have since made major renovations and improvements in the vineyard and in the cellars.
Château de Pressac is a classified growth (Grand Cru Classé) of Saint-Emilion since 2012.
The castle is located on the top of a hill, in Saint-Etienne de Lisse (East part of the Saint-Emilion appellation), and the vineyard covers 40 hectares in one block on a fantastic terroir dedicated to vineyard for centuries.
The vineyard is for one part located on the limestone plateau, and for the second part on the limestone and clay slopes (from the top to the bottom). A part of this vineyard is established on terraces on the very steep slopes.
The vineyard is planted with all the five traditional grape varieties of Saint-Emilion : Merlot (69%), Cabernet franc (17%), Cabernet sauvignon (10%), Carmenère (2%) and Pressac (2%), another name of Malbec, which was imported from Cahors to Bordeaux in the early 18th century by the owner of Château de Pressac. Each grape variety has been chosen to be best adapted to each plot of vineyard. Then, the vinification is made plot by plot in a specific vat.
The property is proud to carry its family values of authenticity, simplicity, refinement and hospitality (9000 people welcomed annually), in respect of the environment (High Environmental Value certification, level 3).
