A true jewel of nature in the city, Château Brown is one of the rare vineyards to be found on the outskirts of the city.
Situated on te southern edge of the city of Bordeaux, the 31-hectare single vineyard is rooted in some of the oldest terroirs in the Bordeaux wine region.
Purchased by the Mau and Dirkzwager families in 2004, Château Brown has since been completely rethought and restructured.
At the head of the estate, Jean-Christophe Mau puts the vineyard at the heart of his concerns and is committed above all to the highest standards of viticulture.
Here, everything possible is done to protect this exceptional setting where vines, meadows, woods and gardens intermingle over 60 hectares. everything possible is done to protect this exceptional setting where vines, flower-filled meadows, woods and gardens intermingle. Only 31 hectares of vines are grown on the 60 hectares of potential AOC land. More than 200 trees and 4 kilometres of hedges have been planted, while drainage water is collected and transformed into wetlands to create a balanced ecosystem. An orchard with many fruit trees and a flower farm diversify the crops grown.
The discreet presence of a dove on the label is a reminder that biodiversity is THE priority for the owners.
Deer, rabbits and birds are now part of the daily landscape of the vineyard. The 150 nesting boxes for chickadees and bats, installed in 2021, are gradually being colonised, and the estate's apiary produces Miel des terres de Brown every year.
Château Brown has been awarded "High Environmental Value" certification for its rational viticulture practices.
The estate refrains from using anti-rot chemicals, glyphosate or CMR (carcinogenic, mutagenic and reprotoxic) products, while 100% of the foliar fertilisers and soil improvers used are of organic origin. Working the soil, plant cover and prophylaxis are at the heart of a winegrowing strategy in search of a natural balance.
In addition to its agricultural activities, the company is taking concrete steps to reduce the carbon footprint of its business as a whole. By selecting local suppliers with an eco-responsible approach, and by making well-considered packaging choices, Château Brown aims to reduce its ecological impact throughout the supply chain.
Jean-Christophe Mau's concern for impeccable quality extends to every stage in the winemaking process, so that his wines reflect his own image: precise, generous and consistent.
The grapes are harvested by hand, in small crates, at optimum ripeness. The bunches are sorted one by one on the vine, then only the most beautiful berries are selected by a latest-generation optical sorting machine.
The ensuing extraction is as gentle as possible (without punching down) and the wine is matured on a parcel-by-parcel basis until the final blend. Sulphur levels are remarkably low.
Vintage after vintage, the quality of the wines has risen sharply, as has their reputation. The seriousness and consistency of the wines are rewarded more and more each year by the greatest international journalists, with scores worthy of the classified growths of the appellation.
