Chiarelli Rossotti Winery is a family-run organic wine estate located in Sicily, in an area historically suited to viticulture, just a short distance from the sea. The Mediterranean climate and constant marine breezes play a key role in shaping the character and freshness of the wines.
The vineyards extend over 35 hectares and are farmed according to organic principles, with deep respect for the environment, the soil and the natural life cycle of the vine. Vineyard management is based on essential and traditional practices, such as careful ploughing and green manuring, aimed at preserving soil vitality and ensuring balanced, high-quality production.
Grapes are harvested mainly in the early hours of the day and vinified in a recently renovated winery located within the historic Baglio di Calatubo, where wine has been produced since the early 1800s. Winemaking follows organic, gentle and non-invasive methods, with the goal of preserving varietal identity and expressing the authentic character of the territory.
Production focuses on grape varieties historically linked to this area, including Catarratto Alcamo DOC, once cultivated on the agricultural estates of the Princes of Valdina in Calatubo and now part of the Chiarelli Rossotti Winery heritage. The Catarratto produced in these lands received prestigious international recognition at the beginning of the 20th century, winning gold and silver medals at the 1900 Paris Universal Exposition held for the inauguration of the Eiffel Tower, and was also appreciated at the Savoy court.
Alongside this historic variety, the estate produces Grillo, vinified in a fresh and aromatic style, and Nero d’Avola, yielding a structured and well-balanced red wine with distinctive Mediterranean scrub aromas. The wines pair naturally with Mediterranean cuisine, both meat and seafood dishes.
Annual production amounts to approximately 80,000 bottles, made exclusively from estate-grown grapes.
In addition to winemaking, the estate offers wine tourism experiences, including guided tours and tastings held in the winery and in the courtyard of the baglio. Tastings are accompanied by naturally leavened baked goods and local cheeses produced in the estate’s own dairy.
The agricultural ecosystem also includes beekeeping, with hives of native Sicilian black bees, which support environmental balance and pollination while producing artisanal honey, often featured during tastings.
