Capanna Winery, owned by the Cencioni family since
1957, is located in the Montosoli area north of Montalcino.
Giuseppe Cencioni, born in 1906, was one of the founding
fathers of modern-day Brunello. In fact, in 1964, he bottled
Brunello di Montalcino for the first time. Two years later,
in 1966, DOC Brunello di Montalcino was recognized as
an Italian appellation and after just 13 months, on April 27,
1967, Giuseppe became one of the 25 founding members
of the Brunello di Montalcino Wine Consortium.
Beginning in the 1970s, the Capanna wines have been
exported to Europe, Canada, Japan, the United States and
other destinations for a total of 20 countries. Every year,
clients near and far continue to appreciate and request
vintages produced by the winery.
Capanna Winery has always been a family-run company
and that tradition continues today with Patrizio and Amedeo
Cencioni, the founder’s grandson and great-grandson,
who are currently at the helm. They are respectively the
third and fourth generation who, with passion and an
entrepreneurial spirit, run the estate and continue to add
new business activities.
