The Brunello di Montalcino Consortium was founded in 1967 following the recognition of Doc. The Consortium comprises 219 members representing the 98,2% of the production of Brunello di Montalcino and it protects over 4,300 hectares of vineyards in the district of Montalcino, in favor of four out of seven wines Dop of the territory. Among all stands out the Brunello di Montalcino followed by the Doc Rosso di Montalcino, Moscadello di Montalcino e Sant’Antimo. From June 2019 the presidency of the consortium body is entrusted to Fabrizio Bindocci (which was reconfirmed in June 2022) who has been joined by Andrea Machetti from February 2023 for the direction and by a board of directors of 15 members representing winegrowers, winemakers and bottlers.
An ecosystem driven above all by wine and in particular by the Brunello di Montalcino, with the Consortium always committed to the quality and growth of the Montalcino brand, through initiatives ranging from supervision to yield control, from promotional activities in Italy and abroad to social responsibility initiatives, up to the creation of synergies in the local agri-food chain.
Established in 1970, Caparzo is one of Montalcino's 30 historic wineries, and is among those that most contributed to the creation of the Brunello myth. A center for experimentation and innovation from the outset, in 1977 Caparzo introduced the concept of Cru to Montalcino, vinifying separately the grapes from the La Casa vineyard, one of the most prestigious in the Appellation. Upon purchasing Caparzo in 1998, Elisabetta Gnudi Angelini transformed it radically, building a new, completely underground aging cellar that is among the most technologically advanced in the area. She also replanted the vineyards, and through careful acquisitions increased the vineyard area from the initial 46 hectares to 90, of which 32 yield Brunello and 18 Rosso di Montalcino. One of Caparzo's strong points is that it has vineyards in almost all of Montalcino's best areas; this allows the estate to draw the best from every vintage, even the most difficult. In 1983 the La Casa cru was flanked by La Caduta, a Rosso di Montalcino that draws its name from the La Caduta vineyard. The estate's philosophy has always been to look to the future, and it is no accident that Caparzo was the first Montalcino estate to install solar panels; Elisabetta Gnudi Angelini and her son Igino, who is an environmental engineer, decided to install them seven years ago, and they now supply much of the electricity the cellars require. As such they represent a first, fundamental step towards a viticulture that is less invasive and more respectful of the environment and the landscape. Another important step was the acquisition of a large filter with which to treat all of the rainfall and waters used in the productive cycle, which are made drinkable and stored in a reservoir. In 2005 a program for the differentiated recovery the estate's wastes was introduced, and in 2012 the estate obtained the ISO 9001:2008 “Sistema di Gestione per la Qualità” and the BS OHSAS 18001:2007 “Sistema di Gestione della Sicurezza e Salute sul Luogo di Lavoro” certifications. The Caparzo estate is growing steadily, using the most modern technologies to obtain the most from nature without recourse to chemistry. Caparzo also boasts a cutting edge laboratory that allows it to monitor both the ripeness of the grapes and all of the subsequent phases in the making and aging of the wines. Over its more than 40-year history Caparzo has grown significantly, and its wines have become known and appreciated in Italy and abroad. At present Caparzo's wines are available in 42, countries, sought out by consumers who appreciate their consistent quality and their strong ties to their terroir.
FATTORIA dei BARBI owned by Cinelli Colombini in Montalcino since 1352
More than 2 centuries in wine making, hospitality, fine dining, culture and much more, by a family that has been living in Montalcino for approximately 670 years. Fattoria dei Barbi was established in 1790 and the estate extends over 325 hectares of fields and vineyards in southern Tuscany, Montalcino, Scansano (the estate is Aquilaia dei Barbi), and the Chianti region. Since 1892, Fattoria dei Barbi has produced Brunello wine and it was the first winery to export in Europe, America, and Asia. Since the 1800s, Barbi wines have won prizes all over the world. Today, Fattoria dei Barbi is managed by Stefano Cinelli Colombini, who is carrying on the family legacy, which has seen the Colombini family linked to this land for centuries and whose last and most precious fruit is Brunello.
Fattoria dei Barbi – just a few kilometres from the beautiful Sant’Antimo Abbey – was the first winery accessible to the public in 1949, paving the way to what we name wine-tourism. Today, it is not only a cellar with vineyards, but it is a little world where visitors can enjoy a cultural experience beyond food and wine. Here hospitality means an historical Winery, Taverna dei Barbi, Caseificio dei Barbi and Brunello Museum dedicated to history of Montalcino and to people that made up the foundation of the success of the most prestigious Italian wine.

Le Ragnaie estate extends over an area of 28 hectares within the municipality of Montalcino, in the province of Siena. Our lands are cultivated with vineyards and olive groves, following the guidelines of Organic Agriculture.
We have great luck being able to cultivate highly suitable vineyards in three different micro-areas of Montalcino. This allows us to make wines that are different from each other and bear witness to their territory. Our vineyards are planted exclusively with Sangiovese grapes, grown according to the guidelines for Organic Agriculture.
We do not use chemical products apart from Bordeaux mixture and powdered mine sulphur, both within the limits set by organic farming.
We do not use fertilizers except for a green manure obtained in autumn based on legumes, clover and other herbs which help regenerate the soil weighed down by summer tillage. This process enriches the soil with organic substances, penetrating it down to the roots of the various species sown.
Furthermore, grass cover prevents surface erosion by promoting the absorption of water in the soil. It is also an important habitat for many species of animals and insects, guaranteeing the formation of a rich ecosystem – essential to the health of the vineyards.
Founded by Pierluigi Talenti, the winery is now run by his grandson Riccardo, who carries on the family tradition with a focus on innovation and enhancing the local terroir.
Our 16 hectares of vineyards, divided into 9 parcels on the sun-kissed southern slopes of Montalcino, are cultivated with the utmost care and dedication. Every single vine is tended with the goal of selecting only the finest grapes, to craft wines that express balance, elegance, and pure enjoyment.
Vinification takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, where delicate punch-downs and pump-overs are carried out to respect and enhance the unique character of each parcel.
The aging process continues in 500-liter tonneaux and large oak barrels (25 and 30 hectoliters) from both French and Slavonian oak, where time and wood work together to develop complexity and harmony.
After about ten months, we carefully select the Rosso di Montalcino directly from the barrels, while the Brunello continues its slow and patient aging for nearly three years. Completing our collection are the single-vineyard Brunello Piero and the Brunello Riserva Pian di Conte - crafted only in exceptional vintages.
In addition to the Montalcino vineyards, the estate manages 6 hectares outside the region, which act as a true laboratory for experimenting with different grape varieties and winemaking techniques. This is where wines like Talenti Vintage Rosso IGT (Sangiovese and Petit Verdot) and OOPS Rosato IGT (100% Sangiovese) are created, with a more immediate approach, yet always aiming to produce wines with character that reflect the winery’s continuous pursuit of innovation.
With an annual production of around 70,000 bottles, the winery strikes the perfect balance between tradition and modernity, offering authentic, elegant wines that are deeply rooted in the territory.
