« The 2023 Tonnes Barils is succulent yet tangy, rich yet fresh. While these vines are just a decade old, the wine has a real sense of purpose–perhaps it's the flint bedrock. There's a nice bit of puppy fat to sink into on the relatively light bodied palate, which could be explained by the clay topsoil as well as the extended time on lees. This lees interaction also adds appetizing flavorsome layers of flint and pastry. Mouthwatering and cleansing, making for a sense of rightness on the medium-length finish. »
CLOCHER 2023, CHENIN - Rebecca Gibb MW 93
« Smooth, elegant and subtle, the 2023 Clocher is an elegant barrel fermented Chenin with a fine texture and commendable clarity of fruit. Its delicacy despite its medium-plus richness of fruit suggests careful handling. Satisfying phenolics also give this wine substance and something to chew on towards the finish. Well balanced and gourmand. »
CLOS DE BEAUCE 2023, CHENIN - Rebecca Gibb MW 93
« The 2023 Clos de Beauce is a savory, full expression with a silken midpalate and rich, gourmandise texture. The Chenin fruit, sourced from vines between 50 and 70 years old is concentrated and reminiscent of quince and pineapple alongside clove spice from the oak and pastry-like characters from extended lees time. At this young stage and upon first opening, the oak is still peeking out on the nose and finish but that's something that will be digested with bottle age. The combination of phenolics and persistent acidity provide sinew and length. For a wine with just 13% alcohol, there's plenty of substance and power.»
HUIS CLOS 2023, CHENIN - Rebecca Gibb MW 93
« Mouthfilling yet shapely, the 2023 Huis Clos overs concentrated ripe, white-stone and almost exotic fruit that sits within a frame of subtle oak and rich phenolic character. Octogenarian vines with almost unsustainable yields provide intensity and richness. The subtle influence of large format oak (demi-muids) captures the sweetness of fruit and restrains it while leaving a seductive, long finish.»
