Domaine Bonnigal Bodet, 1 ETOILE
One of the revelations of recent years in Touraine ! When they took over the estate in 2015, Jean Baptiste Bonnigal and Stéphane Bodet halved the production area in order to focus on their best plots in Amboise, where Côt (Malbec) and Chenin are showcased. There is a clear focus on finesse, pulpy flesh and floral notes in the expression of these colourful reds. For the whites, particular care is taken with the wide range of dry Chenins grown in specific locations. The grapes are harvested at just the right stage of ripeness and the ageing process is meticulous; the wines offer a variety and quality that is unrivalled in this sector. These winemakers, who are deeply committed to promoting the Amboise appellation, are definitely ones to watch.
Wines: a myriad of exciting vintages. Let's start with the reds and Génésis 2023, an infused, floral, sanguine, hyper-digestible version of Côt. Mont Luma asserts itself in a darker, more concentrated, salient register, with a perception of volatile acidity making it tighter. The same goes for Les Séminées, with a more fleshy mid-palate, which lingers on a vigorous tannic finish.
The talented duo produced some admirable whites in 2023, a challenging vintage for Chenin. These carefully aged wines are deliciously balanced, dynamic and mouth-watering. The 2015 Clos de Beauce is an exciting sweet version, set off by a tangy liveliness and a fine, mouth-watering bitterness. Coming from a cold terroir, Les Beauvoirs is a little firm on the palate, which gives it a breathtaking freshness. Le Buisson has a mineral dimension, both in its aroma and in its balance on the palate, a magnificent Chenin that is perfectly dry and distinctive.
