Domaine Bonnigal Bodet, 1 star
« One of the revelations of recent years in Touraine! The estate was taken over by Jean-Baptiste Bonnigal and Stéphane Bodet in 2015. This young and talented duo halved the production area in order to focus on their best plots in Amboise, where Côt (Malbec) and Chenin are showcased. There is a clear focus on finesse, lush fleshiness and floral notes in the expression of the colourful reds. For the whites, particular care is taken with the wide range of dry Chenins grown in specific lieux-dits. The grapes are perfectly ripe and the ageing process is meticulous: the wines offer a variety and quality that is unrivalled in this sector. The estate deserves its first star.
Les vins : Sixty-eight months on slats is how long this crémant is aged. Its golden evolution, with powerful notes of frangipane, curry and dried fruit, enlivens a flavourful and composed body. A serene and ambitious bubble ready to pair with an aged Mimolette cheese.
2022 produced well-ripened Chenins that were handled with tact, starting with Les Beauvoirs, which is both tender and flavourful. Its finish is mouth-watering.
Le Buisson takes the mineral sensation further, still with that note of ripe grapes.
Huis Clos is a favourite. Behind a subtle toasted reduction, it is the most vibrant, chiselled white wine, which best tames the sunny character of the vintage. What brilliance!
Three red wines are worth discovering, starting with Genesis, with its grenadine colour: an infusion of flowers and raspberries, light on the palate with mouth-watering tannins. A unique style for this grape variety, which often produces darker wines. The two 2019 vintages promise to be more colourful. Les Séminées offers a luscious flesh, making this Côt appealing while respecting its notes of blackberry jam and blood-red tannins. Don't hesitate to decant it. Mont Luma has a more sunny profile. Its firmer tannic structure will soften at the table in winter with a confit of beef cheek. »
