2021 Athanasiou Winery Nemea Classic Cuvée (US label for Gi fotos)
Released with a few more years of barrel and bottle age, the Athanasiou Winery 2021 Nemea Classic Cuvée is made with Agiorgitiko grapes from 50-year-old vines. The wine ages in French oak for 12 months for a deeper color and more structure.
The bouquet offers blackcurrant, wild cherry and sweet spice from the wood. Personally, I find the primary freshness of the basic Nemea red more immediately attractive, but this is the more
complex wine with the latitude to pair with roast pork or lamb. The acidity is high. Production is limited to 2,050 bottles.
