Mavrodaphne of the Aigialeia Slopes reveals a different, lighter and more expressive character than its classic image. On the nose, aromas of black cherry, plum and blackcurrant dominate, with hints of sweet spices, bay leaf and black tea. On the palate, the structure is medium-bodied, with velvety tannins and balanced acidity. The aftertaste is long, with a discreet presence of wood and fruit.
It goes excellently with dishes with smoked cold cuts, roasted pork with plums, grilled mushrooms, but also soft mature cheeses such as brie or kaseri.
Mavrodaphne, freed from the burden of tradition, expresses here its mountainous identity with freshness, finesse and complexity and emerges as a variety with dynamics, capable of standing alongside international reds, without losing its Greek identity.
