When you think of volcanoes, Hungary is not the first place that comes to mind. Nor do you immediately think of Hungary when somebody starts talking about one of the last decades’ wine trends, volcanic wines. Places like Etna, Vesuvius and Soave in Italy no doubt feature high on your mental list of volcanic wine regions, or Santorini, the Canary Islands, the Azores, or even, if you’re partial to a drop of fortified wine, the islands of Madeira. However, Hungary should be right up there with these! It’s no coincidence that Budapest hosted a volcanic wines summit, #govolcanic, in 2019.
