Child Company of Marcel Deiss et les Vignobles Complantés
The Vineyards of ZORAH can be found at 1400m & 1600m above sea level at the foothills of BiblicalMount Ararat in the rural village of Rind in South eastern Armenia. We focus on making wines with ancient native varietals which are indigenous to Armenia and some of which are on the verge of extinction. We work with the Areni grape, which 100% indigenous to Armenia and is considered one of the oldest varieties in the world as well as other native varieties such as Voskeat, Garandmak, Chilar, Ararati and Sireni. Our terroir is blessed with no phylloxera which means no grafting. Limestone and rocky soils make for incredible dranage. Our ancient ultra centennial bush vines can be found at 1600 mtrs. Here the vineyards are not well defined where a mix of varieties are co planted among walnut and apple trees. We have the highest standards and absolute devotion to sustainability and protecting our terroir and therefore only use bio methods of vineyard management. In the winery, we tell the story of our 6000-year-old terroir with most of our wines aging in Armenian traditional amphoras known as Karasi and which echo the millennial traditions of place reflected in the nearby Areni 1 cave considered the world’s oldest winemaking facility , dated 4000BC.
