INTRODUCTION:
Poiana is a private estate located in a clearing, near Ulmu village, Ialoveni, surrounded by centennial forests of elm and oak trees in the heart of Moldova, Codru geographic region.
The soil is brown with a thick clay layer, covering limestone hills, mild winters and hot summers.
GRAPES:
The wines of Poiana are made from grapes carefully selected of internationally known varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Traminer, Pinot Gris, Aligote, Muscat, but also of specific local varieties such as Feteasca Alba, Feteasca Neagra, Feteasca Regala, Tămâioasă, Busuioaca de Bohotin.
VINEYARDS:
The estate has 36 hectares of own young vines and plans on expanding 10 more.
Bathed by the sun throughout the year, the grapes are filled with the best juice and character,
easily sensed in the wine taste. The oldest vines were planted in 2003, while the most recent in May 2025.
HARVEST:
The harvest begins in late summer, for the white varieties. The grapes are handpicked when the sugar and acidity indicate appropriate biological and phenolic maturity.
WINE:
Be it white, red or rosé, the Poiana wines are made using various techniques: normal and cold maceration, fermentation on fine lees, malolactic fermentation, aging in oak and on lees. This complex sequential approach allows us to extract most of the fruit, acidity and aroma of the skins, the juice of the grapes, making the wine a poem.
TASTING NOTES:
Red vintages come in beautiful color, harmonious and elegant, proper structure, young and pleasant. The nose reveals aromas of red fruits, red and black cherries. The first taste is sweet, with silky tannins, round and fleshy mouth. The white vintages come in a range of colors, harmonious, correct structure, young and pleasant.
We are confident that the cellar aging for our younger red vintages, away from heat and light, will lead them to perfection.
