Tenuta di Capezzana is one of the oldest wine producing estates in Italy.
Dating back to the year 804 AD, we produce unique wines made only with our own grapes.
The appellation Carmignano DOCG, is one of the four oldest ever-mentioned appellations in Italian literatures: the 1716 “Bando”.
Carmignano was also the first area in Tuscany where Sangiovese was combined with Cabernet (planted here in the 1700's) and it can be considered a precursor of Super Tuscan blends.
The Contini Bonacossi family bought the estate in 1922:
Vittoria and Alessandro Contini Bonacossi, were famous art collectors and acquired Capezzana because they were fascinated by this winery with such a great history.
The 4th and the 5thgeneration of the family is still taking care of the winery.
Their philosophy is that good winemaking starts from the vineyard, that’s why they have a high respect for nature and their goal is to make wines that deeply express the terroir.
Due to the special microclimate in Carmignano, they have been practicing organic farming for many years and they have been certified organic in 2015.
They use exclusive indigenous yeast in order to make wines unique.
At the helm of Fattoria Le Pupille, 85 hectares of vineyards scattered like the tesserae of a precious mosaic across the most vocated areas of the Maremma, stands today an authentic family dream team. Elisabetta Geppetti, the soul of the estate since its beginnings, is now joined by her children: Clara, head of sales and marketing, and Ettore, technical director. Together, harvest after harvest, they give life to extraordinary expressions of this land.
First among them is Saffredi: the Bordeaux-style wine created by a very young Elisabetta Geppetti together with the famous oenologist Giacomo Tachis. A wine that marked the beginning of Maremma’s oenological success and continues to stand out internationally as one of its most authoritative interpretations.
Equally representative of the estate’s style are the Sangiovese cru Poggio Valente; Le Pupille, a pure Syrah; RosaMati, a refined Syrah-based rosé; Poggio Argentato, a white cuvée of surprising charm; and Piemme, a successful dry expression of Petit Manseng.
Completing the collection is Morellino di Scansano, in both its vintage and Riserva versions, proud ambassador of its homeland and the starting point of Fattoria Le Pupille’s remarkable wine journey.
