Antichi Poderi Jerzu: A Legacy of Passion, Culture, and Terroir
Established in 1950 thanks to the vision of Josto Miglior, Antichi Poderi Jerzu is the first cooperative winery in Ogliastra, uniting today roughly 408 families of winegrowers. Known as “the doctor of the vines” as well as of the vinegrowers, Josto Miglior was a physician with multiple specializations, caring for both people and vineyards. He convinced 18 small producers to join forces under a single company, giving dignity and strength to a community that had previously worked in isolation.
Thanks to his foresight and commitment to protecting producers’ interests in their dealings with merchants, Antichi Poderi Jerzu has become a benchmark for Cannonau production, contributing approximately 30% of the total output of this iconic Sardinian wine. Yet Jerzu’s winemaking heritage runs much deeper: as early as 1130, a notarized document recording a donation to the Church of Santa Maria in Lotzorai also mentions vineyards in the Jerzu area, attesting to a centuries-old bond between people, land, and wine.
The first grape deliveries to Antichi Poderi Jerzu date back to 1959. Initially, production focused on bulk wines shipped to France and Tuscany. Only in the early 1970s, with the creation of the company brand and bottled wines, did the local territory begin to be promoted through its own products. Today, the winery produces over 1.5 million bottles annually, involving more growers each year, reaching roughly 408 members.
