RHUM 303
Immerse yourself in the Highlands of Southern Madagascar, where history and tradition intertwine to give life to our artisanal distillery located in the heart of the town of Ambalavao (postal code 303). For centuries, the Betsileo region has been renowned for its precious treasure, Toaka Gasy.
This rum, once smuggled, is fermented and distilled in secret deep within the forest.
Our distillery was founded in 1970 by Mr. Jean Verger, a visionary whose dream was to bring value to this national treasure.
Today, under the banner of Rhumerie 303, we perpetuate this tradition and strive to constantly improve our techniques of fermentation, distillation, aging, and rum blending.
We work with wild-harvested sugarcane from Ambalavao, grown along the rivers and streams and purchased directly from local farmers, as well as molasses from sugar refinery in northern Madagascar.
The Ambalavao sugarcane used in our rums is cultivated at altitudes of over 800 meters, drawing its richness from fertile soils and significant temperature variations. This unique characteristic gives it a high sugar content, exceptional purity, and inimitable floral aromas. In Ambalavao, the sugarcane is grown without pesticides or chemical inputs, following family practices passed down through generations.
Each stalk is hand-cut at the precise moment of its ripeness to preserve the full richness of its juice, which is both sweet and vibrant, revealing notes of honey, white flowers, and fresh sugarcane.
Distilled or fermented, Ambalavao sugarcane offers the most aromatic and balanced profile in Madagascar.
